May 19, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick and Lloyd Jackson talk with Lauren Wilson, Amazon Prime Air ops manager. They discuss Amazon’s drone delivery expansion in metro Detroit, detailing drone capabilities, operations, and community reception.
METRO DETROIT ~ Amazon drone delivery services have been buzzing over the metro Detroit area for about six months now, carrying packages less than five pounds to buyers.
Two Amazon Fulfillment Centers utilize these delivery drones: one in Pontiac and another in Hazel Park, with the Pontiac center able to deliver packages within a 7.5-mile radius. However, some residents in communities such as Bloomfield Township are worried about the privacy implications of the drones as more and more deliveries are being made in the area, particularly with the drones’ cameras looking into their homes.
The Bloomfield Township Police Department recently responded to residents’ concerns, sharing that only two Amazon employees review the footage when a drone fails to make a delivery. The department also said that the Pontiac facility makes about 140-170 flights a day.
