ITHACA, N.Y. ~ A former Cornell University student says she is still seeking accountability after alleging she was sexually assaulted at a fraternity house in 2024, as newly released details from her statement to police continue to draw attention to the case. The civil lawsuit names seven former fraternity members, including Scott Kretzschmar, who is originally from Casco Township in Michigan, among the defendants.
The case has renewed discussions about how survivors process trauma and the challenges they can face when pursuing complaints through university and legal systems. In a recent development, Matthew Van Houten, the district attorney in Tompkins County, New York, said his office has reopened its review of the allegations after previously declining to pursue criminal charges, while Cornell University has agreed to an independent review of its handling of the matter.
