WASHINGTON D.C. ~ Privacy concerns are being raised with a federal law that will require new technology to be implemented in new 2027 car models and onwards.
The HALT Drunk Driving Act was passed in 2021, requiring new cars to have “passive” monitoring of the driver’s performance and cease operations of the motor vehicle if it suspects the driver is impaired. Proponents argue that it will help curb drunk driving incidents, while critics fear a lack of privacy with the so-called kill switch and monitoring technology.
