MICHIGAN ~ Michigan is set to get toasted by an intense heat wave this week, with most of the state under an extreme warning.
Much of Southern and Mid Michigan, including Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Lansing, will be under an extreme heat warning from noon Tuesday to 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Southeast Michigan will be under an extreme heat watch for the same time frame, with the heat index potentially reaching 105-110 degrees.
Temperature highs will stay in the 90s and reach to around 100 degrees during the heat wave, with extended periods of hot and humid conditions expected Tuesday through at least Thursday. Even overnight temperatures will be warm, dipping only to the mid to high 70s.
The weather service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of
the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors amid the scorching temperatures. People should not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
