April 29, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick and Lloyd Jackson spoke with Barbara McQuade, University of Michigan law professor and former U.S. Attorney, about James Comey’s second indictment. They discussed proving intent and selective prosecution challenges.
WASHINGTON D.C. ~ Former FBI Director and critic of President Donald Trump, James Comey, was indicted by a grand jury in North Carolina over a social media post he made last year.
He was charged with making threats against the president and transmitting a threat in interstate commerce, claiming the post was “a serious expression of an intent to do harm to the President of the United States.” The post in question featured a photo of seahsell on the beach arranged to spell “86 47,” with “86” referring to slang meaning “get rid of” and “47” seemingly referring to Trump being the 47th president.
Many Republicans took this as an expression of wanting to harm Trump, while Comey maintains his now-deleted post had no violent meaning behind it.
