LANSING ~ Michigan public school districts have been left frustrated once again after the State Legislature missed the deadline for passing an education budget for the second year in a row.
The deadline set by state law is July 1, but the divided legislature did not vote in time to set the state’s education budget for the fiscal year 2027. The deadline was set by state lawmakers in 2019 to match districts’ fiscal years, so without a state budget in place, this has left school districts to set their budgets on guesses, essentially.
