May 13, 2026 ~ Oakland County Executive David Coulter discusses what’s next after a giant water main is replaced in Oakland County.
OAKLAND COUNTY ~ A 42-inch water main that broke over the weekend in Auburn Hills is back in service and is now providing water at normal pressures to the impacted communities, though boil water advisories are still in place.
According to the latest press release from the GLWA, a replacement pipe piece was lowered into the break site late Monday morning, followed by filling, pressure testing, disinfecting, and flushing the isolated section of the water main. Crews are now flushing the surrounding water system, with boil water advisories in place in Orion Township, the Village of Lake Orion, and parts of Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer placed the affected areas under a state emergency order, which took place due to a water main break at River Woods Park in Auburn Hills. The GLWA monitored the pipe for much of last week after a leak was discovered.
Water access was disrupted or nonexistent for many, with some schools, restaurants, and businesses temporarily closed due to the break. Residents in the affected area are being asked by the GLWA to use water for essential purposes only, though these restrictions have been lifted.
