DETROIT, August 4, 2025 ~ The Detroit Tigers made several trades leading up to the July 31 deadline, focusing on bolstering their pitching staff. They acquired starting pitcher Chris Paddack and reliever Randy Dobnak from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for catching prospect Enrique Jimenez. Additionally, they traded minor league infielder Jim Jarvis to the Atlanta Braves for veteran reliever Rafael Montero.

On deadline day, the Tigers completed multiple deals. They acquired reliever Paul Sewald from the Cleveland Guardians for a player to be named later or cash considerations. They also traded prospects to the Washington Nationals for reliever Kyle Finnegan and sent cash to the Texas Rangers in exchange for reliever Codi Heuer.

August 1st, 2025 ~ The MLB trade deadline came and went and for Tigers fans felt underwhelmed as the big returns for Detroit were Kyle Finnegan (Nationals) and Charlie Morton (Orioles). Anthony and Ryan discuss what grade they would give the Tigers and Scott Harris comments about his approach to the deadline. Then Anthony and Ryan dive into the Lions as Detroit lost their first preseason game 34-7, but the bigger takeaway being how outside of Isaac TeSlaa and Rock Ya-Sin, there weren’t many positives from this game.

(CONTINUED) The Tigers also acquired veteran starter Charlie Morton from the Baltimore Orioles. Morton made his debut on Aug. 3 against the Philadelphia Phillies, pitching six innings and allowing just one run while striking out six batters. Despite his strong performance, the Tigers lost the game 2–0 due to limited offensive production.

In total, Detroit added six pitchers, four relievers, and two starters without trading away any players from their major league roster. The moves were aimed at increasing depth and flexibility, particularly in the bullpen, as the team continues its push for a playoff spot in the American League.
