WASHINGTON, D.C. ~ The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee unanimously advanced the Connected Vehicle Security Act of 2026 with bipartisan support, which was introduced by U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly), in attempt to keep Chinese automobiles with wireless communication off of American streets and markets.
The goal of the bill, which was also introduced by Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), is to protect America from Chinese data collectors.
“Chinese cars are surveillance packages on wheels and I’m looking forward to getting this bill over the finish line,” Slotkin posted on X Wednesday.
President of the United Auto Workers Shawn Fain has also come out in support of the legislation. If passed by the House and the president, the restrictions on connected cars with software would begin next year while the hardware ban would come in 2030.
