VATICAN CITY ~ For Catholics around the world, the focus has shifted from concern to hope as Pope Leo XIV begins recovering from lung surgery in Rome. The Vatican said the procedure to remove the lower lobe of his right lung was successful, and the pope spent a peaceful first night in the hospital surrounded by close aides.
The surgery followed the discovery of a localized lung cancer, and doctors reported no complications during the operation. As Pope Leo recovers, prayers and messages of support continue to pour in from the faithful, with the Vatican saying his condition remains stable.
