MICHIGAN ~ Fifth Third Bank announced another round of layoffs at a former Comerica Bank operations center in Auburn Hills on Wednesday, continuing the trend following the two companies’ merger earlier this year.
The company is laying off 234 people, adding up to over 700 Michiganders who have lost their jobs connected to the $10.9 billion merger. The filing notice from Fifth Third Bancorp said that the layoffs are expected to start Sept. 11.
“We consistently review our operations to ensure we’re organized for long-term growth and sustainable profitability,” said a Fifth Third representative. “That means aligning staffing with future business needs and creating meaningful opportunities for our teammates in the process. Decisions like these are never easy but position us to deliver more value for our customers, communities and shareholders. We’re committed to treating every impacted colleague with respect and providing support throughout the transition.”
The former operations center is located at 3701 Hamlin Road.
