EAST LANSING ~ Michigan State University has selected Dan Bartholomae as its next athletic director, turning to a leader who built a strong reputation at Western Michigan University. Bartholomae is known for his fundraising efforts and ability to build relationships with donors, alumni and community stakeholders. His hiring comes as Michigan State navigates a rapidly changing college athletics landscape.

(CONTINUED) During his tenure at Western Michigan, Bartholomae oversaw one of the most successful periods in the school’s athletic history. The Broncos won the 2025 Mid-American Conference football championship, and the hockey program captured its first NCAA national championship. Those achievements raised the profile of the athletic department while helping position Bartholomae as a candidate for a Power Four athletic director role.
For Michigan State, the hire reflects the growing importance of leadership beyond competition on the field.
