DETROIT, MICH. ~ After trading Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Detroit Pistons are adding to the front court in the form of power forward John Collins. The 28-year-old signed a 3-year, $51 million deal, ESPN’s Shams Charania announced Wednesday.
The first year of Collins’ contract is the only one that is fully guaranteed, offering Detroit future financial flexibility. National media is also reporting that his deal will be a sign-and-trade which will allow the Pistons to keep sharpshooting forward Duncan Robinson with the team.
Collins adds athleticism and spacing to an offense that desperately needs more shooting, especially after losing veteran forward Tobias Harris to the San Antonio Spurs. Last year with the Los Angeles Clippers, Collins shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc and added more than 13 points and five rebounds per contest.
Expect news to keep developing as All-Star center Jalen Duren’s contract continues to be the biggest headline of the offseason for Detroit.
