DETROIT ~ A coalition of rabbis is calling on Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed to remove a campaign advertisement featuring former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, arguing the ad amplifies a figure they say has a history of antisemitic rhetoric. The religious leaders contend public officials should distance themselves from voices accused of promoting harmful stereotypes and division.
The controversy has added to the ongoing debate over antisemitism, political messaging and the role of outside groups in the closely watched Senate race. While supporters of El-Sayed say the ad was intended to highlight bipartisan criticism of his opponent, rabbis maintain candidates have a responsibility to reject rhetoric that could contribute to prejudice and mistrust.
