October 22, 2026 ~ Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Rocky Raczkowski joins Kevin Dietz to discuss Russia’s release of Michigan native Stephen Hubbard, who spent more than four years imprisoned on accusations of fighting for Ukraine.
DETROIT ~ After spending more than four years in a Russian prison, Michigan native Stephen Hubbard is finally on his way home, bringing relief to family, friends and supporters who feared his detention could stretch on even longer. The retired teacher had been designated by the United States as wrongfully detained after being convicted in Russia on allegations that he fought as a mercenary for Ukraine.
Hubbard’s release comes as U.S. and Russian officials continue high-level discussions, but for many Michiganders, the focus is on the return of a fellow American who endured years behind bars far from home. Experts say Hubbard will undergo medical evaluations and debriefings as he begins the process of rebuilding his life after a lengthy and uncertain ordeal.
