VATICAN CITY ~ Catholics around the world received encouraging news this week as doctors confirmed that Pope Leo XIV is cancer-free following surgery earlier this month to remove a tumor from the right lung. Medical officials said testing showed the cancer was localized and had been completely removed, meaning the pope will not require chemotherapy or additional treatment.
The announcement brought relief to many faithful who had been praying for the pope’s recovery since the Oct. 13 surgery. Church leaders said Pope Leo XIV is continuing to recover well and is expected to gradually resume public duties as the leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.
