October 1, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick and Lloyd Jackson discuss a funeral home mix-up with Gary Felty, trial attorney at Feiger Law. A grieving family received the wrong body for an open casket viewing and learned their mother was mistakenly cremated instead.
DETROIT ~ A Metro Detroit family’s effort to say goodbye to their mother took a devastating turn when they realized the body in her casket was not hers, raising questions about how the mistake occurred. Attorney Gary Felty said funeral homes are required to maintain identification records and a chain of custody for human remains, and the legal case will focus on determining where that process failed.
One family was forced to relive the funeral process, while another continues searching for answers about the whereabouts of a loved one’s remains. Felty said the lawsuit seeks accountability and compensation for the distress caused by the error, while a state investigation examines whether proper safeguards were followed.
