MICHIGAN ~ A new poll shows that Democrats currently have the edge in Michigan’s top races for this year’s highly-watched midterm elections.
A new poll by Lansing-based survey research firm EPIC▪MRA found that 47% of Michigan voters would vote for, or leans towards, progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, with 43% supporting or leaning towards Republican Mike Rogers. The remaining 10% were undecided.
The poll also gave Democrats the slight edge in the state’s governor’s race, with Democrat and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson garnering 45% support compared to Republican U.S. Rep. John James’ 41%. The remaining 14% of voters were undecided.
The survey was conducted from Aug. 22-28.
The polls show El-Sayed and Rogers are locked in a tight race for Michigan’s open Senate seat that is likely to decide party control of the U.S. Senate, with a polling average from RealClearPolitics showing El-Sayed leading slightly by 46.3% compared to Rogers’ 44.5%. The polling average for the gubernatorial race has Benson up by 6.4%.
