INDIANAPOLIS, Ind ~ The Detroit Lions closed out the preseason with a 25-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, leaning on veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs and a physical rushing attack. Dobbs looked in complete control of the offense, completing 15 of 19 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns while helping Detroit build an early lead. His scoring passes to Jackson Meeks and Tay Martin gave several roster hopefuls a chance to shine in their final audition before roster cuts.

(CONTINUED) Detroit’s ground game set the tone throughout the afternoon. Running back Jacob Saylors carried the load, rushing 17 times for 100 yards, while Trayveon Williams punched in two rushing touchdowns. The Lions finished with 369 total yards and dominated possession, holding the ball for more than 36 minutes. Detroit also converted 13 of 19 third-down opportunities, repeatedly extending drives and keeping Indianapolis’ defense on the field.
On the defensive side, the Lions limited the Colts to 240 total yards and just one successful third-down conversion in 10 attempts. Detroit’s young defenders continued to make plays as roster spots remained up for grabs, with cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. leading the team with six tackles. More importantly, the Lions left Indianapolis healthy and with momentum, finishing the preseason on a positive note as attention now turns to the regular-season opener and final roster decisions.
The Lions open the regular season Sept. 13 against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field.
