PODCAST:
July 16, 2026 ~ About 94,000 people in the United States are on the kidney transplant waiting list. Nearly 2,500 of them are here in Michigan. On average, 11 people die every day waiting for a kidney transplant.
A large share of kidney transplants are performed from deceased donors, while the number of living donor transplants, though small, is rising. In this special hour of All Talk, Marie Osborne leads a conversation about living kidney donations with local patients and medical experts.
She speaks to two guests who are currently seeking donors: Michael Stoller and Bill Liebold, who share their journeys on the kidney donations for transplants. She also talks with Dr. Dean Kim, Surgical Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant with the Henry Ford Transplant Institute, about the process for both recipient and donor. Lastly, she chats with Brian Martindale, who talks about his own journey with living kidney donation.
Bill Liebold’s donor page through Henry Ford Health can be found here, while Michael Stoller’s Facebook page can be found here.
