Michigan Cannabis Tax Generates Only A Third of Projected Revenue in its First Quarter

MICHIGAN ~ A new state wholesale tax on marijuana underdelivered on tax revenue for road repairs, based on legislator estimates given last year.

The House Fiscal Agency revealed that the 24% wholesale tax brought it $34 million in revenue in the first quarter of 2026, only a third of the projected $105 million a quarter, Crain’s Detroit Business first reported. The tax was introduced last year as a way to fund road repairs across Michigan.
