May 13, 2026 ~ Keith Naughton, automotive reporter for Bloomberg Business, explains new bipartisan legislation aimed at banning Chinese-made vehicles and why concerns over supply chains, data security, and American auto jobs are driving action in Washington.
WASHINGTON D.C. ~ Two Michigan House members, one Democrat and one Republican, introduced a bill this week that would ban vehicles made by Chinese companies from entering the U.S. market.
The “Connected Vehicle Security Act” was introduced by GOP Rep. John Moolenaar (MI-2) and Democrat Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI-6), mirroring a Senate bill recently introduced by Sens. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI). The bill would enforce Biden-era regulations regarding vehicles developed in China due to “national security concerns.”
This bill comes the same week President Donald Trump is attending a two-day summit in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
