EAST LANSING, MI, April 20, 2024 ~ The Michigan State Spartans hosted their annual Spring Showcase to the public at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing on Saturday.

Spartan fans came out to see the team practice and scrimmage to close out Michigan State’s spring training. There was plenty of anticipation to see the team run under new Head Coach Jonathan Smith, who was hired by Sparty back in November after a successful head coaching tenure at Oregon State, holding an all-time record of 34-35 with the Beavers.

Along with Smith came sophomore quarterback Adian Chiles. Chiles spent his first season in college as a backup quarterback at Oregon State. Following Smith to East Lansing essentially meant a guaranteed starting spot in his first season with the Spartans.

Chiles showed great promise in the scrimmage with 105 passing yards and a passing touchdown. Chiles wasn’t the only Spartan who showed out in the scrimmage as Nathan Carter had two touchdowns, one of which being a receiving touchdown from Chiles. Carter was Michigan State’s leading rusher last season with nearly 800 yards. He proved that with a 48-yard rushing touchdown on the scrimmages second play.

After finishing last season with a record of 4-8, Smith is looking to turn things around for the Spartans. With a bigger talent pool in the Big Ten Conference this upcoming season, with additions of UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Washington, this means Michigan State has quite some competition.

The Spartans open their season home at Spartan Stadium against Florida Atlantic on August 31.
