Local Leaders Gather at the 2024 Paul W. Smith St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

DETROIT, March 15, 2023 ~ Once again, 760 WJR brought dozens of Detroit-area business, civic, and political leaders on the air to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Paul W. Smith‘s annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration took place Friday afternoon in the lobby of the Fisher Theatre, featuring musical performances by Rowdy O’Reilly and food provided by Wigleys Corned Beef. The annual broadcast event has been a mainstay for WJR for nearly 40 years now.

(CONTINUED) Guests featured at this year’s event included Democrat Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Detroit Mayor Mike DugganMacomb County Executive Mark HackelOakland County Executive Dave Coulter, Gardner White President Rachel Stewart, U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rodgers, former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, and Parade Company President and CEO Tony Michaels.

In 1985, the first WJR St. Patrick’s Day broadcast was a small gathering of a dozen or so guests hosted in the Fisher Building lobby by legendary broadcaster J.P. McCarthy. From those roots, this event has become one of Detroit’s traditional St. Patrick’s Day kick-offs, with as many as several thousand guests each year.
