Trump and Biden Handily Win Michigan Primaries, Though Biden Struggles With Party Base

MICHIGAN, Feb. 28, 2024 ~ President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump won their party’s primaries Tuesday evening in Michigan, though cracks showed in Biden’s support with the results.

The Associated Press called both races shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m., with Trump taking 756,636 votes, or 68.2% of the total vote, against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Hayley, who received 26.6% of the total vote. Biden picked up 618,115 votes, or 81.1% of the total votes, with Marianne Williamson receiving 3% and Dean Phillips receiving 2.7%.

(CONTINUED) However, the “uncommitted” option on the Democrat ballot, pushed by the Listen to Michigan campaign as a protest vote over his support of Israel‘s military onslaught on Gaza, grabbed over 101,000 votes, or 13.3% of the total vote. This could spell trouble for Biden in the general election since he won Michigan over Trump in 2020 by about 150,000 votes.


MICHIGAN, Feb. 27, 2024 ~ President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump won their party’s respective primaries Tuesday evening in Michigan, though the final results could still spell trouble for Biden.

The Associated Press called both races shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m., with Biden picking up 79.6% of the vote with 18% reported as of 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. However, the “uncommitted” option, pushed by the Listen to Michigan campaign as a protest vote over his support of Israel‘s military onslaught on Gaza, easily surpassed its 10,000 vote goal early on.

Uncommitted” had about 25,000 votes, or about 15% of the vote, as of 9:45 p.m.

Trump also handily won his race against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Hayley, winning 66% of the vote as of 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
