WASHINGTON D.C., Oct. 23, 2023 ~ Republican U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman (MI-1), retired lieutenant general and member of the House Armed Services Committee, joined a crowded field Friday after he announced his bid to be the next House speaker.

Considered a low-profile member of the House, Bergman joined eight other congressmen vying to be the speaker after Republican Rep. Jim Jordan (OH-4) dropped his bid for speaker after losing his third vote. Bergman garnered endorsements from fellow Michigan Reps. Lisa McClain (MI-9), John James (MI-10), John Moolenaar (MI-2), and Tim Walberg (MI-5), with James among a small handful of GOP representatives who voted against Jordan in all three rounds.
