Aug. 24, 2023 ~ Eight Republicans took the stage in Milwaukee Wednesday evening vying to be the top alternative to former President Donald Trump in the GOP presidential primary.

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy stood out from the pack, directly attacking and receiving lots of attention from his debate opponents. Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose second-place spot in the GOP primary polls has been declining in recent months, largely took a backseat to other candidates like Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Hayley.

Trump, who has held a dominant lead in the polls for months, did not attend the debate. Many of the candidates showed support for Trump, despite his multiple ongoing legal issues.

Jason Roe, GOP political and communications strategist based in Bloomfield Hills, joined “JR Morning with Guy Gordon” to discuss who he believed were the winners and losers of the debate.
