DAVE LEWALLEN

Dave LewAllen is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and one of Detroit’s most trusted broadcast voices. A proud graduate of Central Michigan University, LewAllen began his career in sports media, working for WJBK-TV, WLNS-TV, and radio stations WJR-AM and CKLW-AM. He joined WXYZ-TV in 1988 as a sports reporter and spent nearly 15 years covering Detroit’s biggest moments in professional and college sports. In 2004, he transitioned to news anchoring, eventually becoming the lead anchor for 7 Action News at 6, 7, and 11 p.m. His career was marked by integrity, versatility, and a commitment to storytelling that earned him five Emmy Awards and induction into the Michigan Silver Circle.

Beyond the newsroom, LewAllen has been a passionate advocate for community causes. He served as president of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association and chaired charitable events for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. He continues to serve on the board of The Rainbow Connection, a nonprofit granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Known for hosting beloved local events like the Woodward Dream Cruise and the Big, Bright Light Show in Rochester, LewAllen remains a familiar and respected figure in Southeast Michigan. Now retired from television, he brings his signature voice and journalistic spirit to “The Dave LewAllen Podcast,” where he interviews the people making a difference across the region.
