DETROIT ~ A Detroit mother’s lunch break turned tragic when 34-year-old Jaquoya Wix was fatally stabbed in an apparently unprovoked attack in the heart of downtown, leaving family, friends and coworkers mourning her loss. Authorities said Wix was attacked Sunday afternoon near Woodward Avenue and later died at a hospital from her injuries.
The loss has rippled through the community, especially for Wix’s 15-year-old daughter, who is now facing life without her mother. Investigators said a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the attack as police continue working to determine what led to the deadly encounter.
