DETROIT ~ Justin Verlander’s expected final start with the Tigers is set for Saturday, Sept. 26, against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park as part of a celebration of his 21-year career. The outing would mark an emotional return for the franchise icon, whose season has been limited by injuries and who has not started a home game for Detroit since 2017.
Fans are expected to fill Comerica Park for one last chance to watch Verlander take the mound in a Tigers uniform, bringing his career full circle where it began more than two decades ago. Before that farewell, Tigers fans will get a look at the future Monday as right-hander River Ryan is expected to make his Detroit debut, offering a glimpse of the club’s next generation while the organization honors one of its all-time greats.
