DETROIT ~ Detroit students will have access to more afterschool opportunities after Mary Sheffield announced a $2.2 million investment to expand the city’s GOAL Line program. The funding will add seven new locations, including four recreation centers and three Detroit Public Library branches, with officials saying the expansion could serve up to 1,000 additional students this school year.
City leaders said the expansion will bring GOAL Line locations to all seven Detroit City Council districts for the first time. The program provides transportation and access to afterschool activities for students across the city, with Sheffield saying the investment is aimed at increasing opportunities for young people after the school day ends.
