DETROIT — Rocket Classic took 63 golfers into the weekend after Friday’s 3‑under cut, highlighted by world No. 3 Cameron Young’s rebound and a 3‑over finish from last year’s champion Aldrich Potgieter.
The top golfers at the tournament started to peel away from lucky hitters in the second round. Cameron Young came back from Thursday’s 69 by finishing Friday with a course‑record‑matching 61. He jumped 68 spots up the leaderboard, where he’s tied with Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Fishburn for first. Cantlay and Fishburn followed opening 64s with 66s on Friday to join Young at the top of the leaderboard. The steady competition challenges Young’s round‑by‑round approach.

The cut marked the tournament’s end for 2025 Rocket Classic champion Aldrich Potgieter. His 3‑under second round was not enough to counteract Thursday’s 6‑over. At 21 years old, Potgieter has already experienced a career breakthrough with last year’s win, though his inexperience shows in setbacks such as missing this first cut. 2024 Rocket Classic champion Cameron Davis was also lost to the cut. Davis finished the two rounds 3‑over after Friday’s 5‑over 70 round.
2023 Rocket Classic champion Rickie Fowler dodged the trend of short‑falling titleholders and finished Friday in a tie for fourth. Fowler fell just short of the leading trio, but still landed well above Fishburn in odds. Fowler enters the weekend within striking distance of the podium.
