WASHINGTON, D.C. ~ The US House of Representatives voted to pass the Sunshine Protection Act on Tuesday in an effort to lengthen winter days and put an end to the twice-a-year clock change. The bill would keep the clocks one hour ahead, which happens in the spring, and use standard time like Hawaii and most of Arizona before the law takes effect if there is an exemption.
After gaining bipartisan backing in a 308-117 vote, the bill faces an uncertain future in the Senate. Representative Vern Buchanan of the Tampa Bay area introduced the measure in January 2025, and the effort has gained support, as President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social Wednesday to celebrate the passing by the House.
