BIRMINGHAM, MI ~ The city of Birmingham bought the 100-year-old Community House Monday, with the help of a prominent actor with Michigan roots.
The building on Bates Street was purchased in a $5.2 million deal on behalf of the new nonprofit, the City of Birmingham Community House Foundation. The purchase follows a period of uncertainty for the community building after the previous entity that ran it announced that it was intending to sell the Community House last year, before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Famed actor Tim Allen announced that he would match all donations up to $100,000 made by the end of 2026.
