INGLEWOOD, Calif. ~ The U.S. men’s national team dropped a 3-2 decision to Türkiye on June 25 in Inglewood, California, closing out group play with its first loss of the tournament. The U.S., which had already secured the top spot in Group D, started quickly when defender Auston Trusty scored in the third minute off a Sebastian Berhalter corner. Türkiye answered almost immediately, equalizing in the 10th minute and taking a 2-1 lead after a goal in the 31st.
Despite trailing at halftime, the U.S. controlled much of the game statistically. The Americans finished with 53% possession, completed more than 85% of their passes and outshot Türkiye 18-9, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. However, defensive lapses proved costly, as Türkiye capitalized on limited chances with efficient finishing.

(CONTINUED) The U.S. pulled level early in the second half when Berhalter scored in the 49th minute, firing a long-range shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-2. The Americans continued to push, earning nine corner kicks and controlling the tempo for much of the half, but they were unable to convert their pressure into a go-ahead goal.
Türkiye delivered the decisive moment in the 90th minute, scoring from close range to secure the 3-2 win. Despite the loss, the U.S. advances as Group D winner and will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on July 1. The match served as a reminder that while the U.S. attack can generate chances, defensive consistency will be critical entering the knockout stage.
