LANSING ~ Debates are swirling over the authenticity and content of a viral video of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer talking to Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk about data centers.
The clip in question stems from a video taken at a June 1 ground-breaking for a data center in Saline Township, with Whitmer appearing to ignore citizen concerns and pushback against data centers on a “hot mic” moment during a conversation with the AI CEO. Magouyrk said a quote circulating from that video may have been digitally manipulated, with a spokesperson for Whitmer denying she made the comments in question.
The videographer who recorded the clip, Cilla Cresswell, denied that the audio was manipulated. The fact-checking website Snopes determined the video’s authenticity, though it added that the audio was too distorted to verify the exact language used by Whitmer.
