June 15, 2026 ~ WJR’s Director of Community Affairs and News Marie Osborne shares an update on the controversy over two newly installed road signs in Metro Detroit.
WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MICH. ~ Two road signs that read “Next Mile: Voices for Palestinians,” that were installed along Orchard Lake Road near Walnut Lake Road a few months after the attack on Temple Israel have been removed due to public backlash.
“There’s a lot of public outcry in terms of the Jewish community about why something like this would be placed near, of all places, Temple Israel,” Osborne said on All Talk. “But then a lot of people saying, well, this is freedom of speech. This group has the right to have a sign put up if it’s going to clean up that roadway.”
The signs were placed through the Road Commission for the Oakland County Adopt-A-Road program about two miles from the synagogue that was the target of a terrorist attack on March 26, according to the FBI.
The Road Commission has yet to release a statement after they assigned the road segment, and had the signs manufactured and placed without public comment.
