June 7, 2026 ~ Host Ann Thomas talks to Keith Wunderlich, founder of the Vernors Club and event organizer, to discuss the 160th anniversary of Vernors Ginger Ale.
DETROIT, MICH. ~ To honor the 160th anniversary of Vernor’s Ginger Ale, Eastern Market will be hosting a daylong celebration on Sunday, June 14.
The event will include a toast at 3:30 p.m. on Riopelle Street along with historical and family attractions, food, drinks, and music.
Created in 1866, Vernor’s has become a staple for Detroit summer classics like Boston Coolers and cream ales.
“Everyone from the Detroit area has a Vernor’s story to tell. It’s a part of our culture,” said Wunderlich, founder of the Vernor’s Club and organizer of the event, in a press release. “Everybody’s mother gave them Vernor’s if they were feeling sick. And we knew it was officially summer when our moms gave us Vernor’s with vanilla ice cream in it. The Vernor’s 160th Anniversary celebration gives us all a chance to relive a little bit of our childhood and, hopefully, show the next generation that some of the simple things in life are the best.”
Most of the activities will open at 1 p.m. Sunday.
