June 8, 2026 ~ Ruth Moore-Lilly from Hospice of Michigan explains the need for veteran volunteers to support fellow veterans in end-of-life care.
ANN ARBOR ~ An Ann Arbor hospice program is looking for veterans throughout Michigan to volunteer their time as bedside companions for fellow veterans who are receiving end-of-life care.
Volunteer Program Manager for Hospice of Michigan, Ruth Moore-Lilly, told WJR, “We recognize that veterans have some unique experiences, and we really have a mission to ensure that they receive the care that they deserve. Part of that is pairing veterans up with our veteran patients, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve served in combat or if you’re generations apart in age; there’s still that shared camaraderie that veterans have that just a civilian may not be able to meet quite as well as a veteran.”
