DETROIT ~ The Tigers closed out the series with a 7-2 win over the Rays, improving to 25-38 on the season, and they sweated the Rays. Detroit jumped out early and never let Tampa Bay settle in, finishing with a clear edge in hits and overall production.
The offense was balanced and aggressive, led by designated hitter Dillon Dingler, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, doing most of the damage in the middle innings. Second baseman Gleyber Torres added a three-hit game, while catcher Jake Rogers chipped in with a home run as the Tigers kept the pressure on.

(CONTINUED) On the mound, pitcher Troy Melton set the tone, going eight innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out five. He kept Tampa Bay off balance throughout, and the bullpen handled the final inning to seal it.
Tampa Bay tried to hang around early with a couple of runs, but it could not keep pace once Detroit broke it open, and by the end the Tigers had full control and sweated the Rays. They will look to carry that momentum into a three-game series starting Friday against the Mariners.
