May 28, 2026 ~ Warren City Councilman Jonathan Lafferty joins Marie Osborne to discuss the city deciding to ban any new gas stations or car washes to be built in the area.
WARREN, MICH. ~ There are 69 gas stations and 25 car washes that call the city of Warren home, but the Warren City Council believes that this amount is too many, as they unanimously approved a temporary ban for both facilities that have not yet undergone construction last week. The moratorium will last for eight months.
Warren City Councilman Jonathan Lafferty reached out to officials about a year ago after he noticed that there was a plethora of these businesses in the 35 square miles that make up the city.
“Our zoning needs to be tuned, and we need to have smarter zoning to ensure that our corridors are telling the right story about our community,” Lafferty said on ‘JR Afternoon. “We are not a community that wants to be known for gas stations, car washes, and maybe other auto-related businesses. We want to be one that welcomes all businesses.”
Now the focus shifts to the city attorney and planning department as the wait for their revisions is underway.
