DETROIT, MICH. ~ The 1-seed Detroit Pistons’ dream season came to an end in a 125-94 loss in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the 4-seed Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday night at Little Caesars Arena.
Detroit could not find an answer on either side of the ball. The Pistons lost every quarter to the Cavaliers while Detroit’s star point guard Cade Cunningham could not find a rhythm, only managing 13 points.
Pistons’ point guard Daniss Jenkins led the way in scoring for Detroit, recording 17 points while adding five assists. Cleveland also beat the Pistons in the rebound battle, grabbing 50 compared to 41. The refs gave a favorable whistle to the Cavaliers to add to the poor showing, as they drew 31 fouls compared to Detroit’s 22.
Cleveland’s center Jarrett Allen and power forward Evan Mobley both had huge performances down low, posting 23 and 21 points respectively. Cavaliers’ shooting guard Donovan Mitchell and small forward Sam Merrill also made a difference scoring the basketball, as Mitchell led all players with 26 while Merrill chipped in 23.
