DETROIT, MICH. ~ According to a new Mitchell Research poll, U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is now the favorite to be the Democratic nominee out of the Michigan primary. CEO of Mitchell Research & Communications Steve Mitchell stated on ‘JR Afternoon that El-Sayed has the advantage, now polling at 28%, compared to Congresswoman Haley Stevens at 18% and State Senator Mallory McMorrow at 17%.
“A plurality of Democrats actually supported Gaza over Israel. And I think that’s the progressive or far left wing of the Democratic Party. That’s the group that obviously supports El Sayed,” Mitchell said. “He’s getting 80% of the vote with voters 18 to 44.”
One demographic that El-Sayed is not leading in is African Americans, as Stephens is the favorite in that category. Stephens is also the front runner for voters who are neither white nor African American.
The 2026 United States Senate election in Michigan will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
