DETROIT, MICH. ~Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal will miss time after being diagnosed with loose bodies in his left elbow, the team announced May 4. (CONTINUED) Skubal will undergo surgery to remove the loose bodies. The Tigers did not provide a timetable for his return. Similar procedures typically require a recovery period of two to three months. The 29-year-old is a two-time reigning American League Cy Young Award winner. Through seven starts this season, Skubal was 3-2 with a 2.70 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings.
The injury comes during a key season for both Skubal and the Tigers. Skubal is eligible for free agency after the 2026 season. Detroit will adjust its rotation while he recovers.
