GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. ~ Michigan’s gubernatorial candidates are set to face off Tuesday night as Democrat Jocelyn Benson and Republican John James take the debate stage in Grand Rapids ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
The one-hour debate, airing statewide at 7 p.m., is expected to focus on issues including the economy, health care, immigration and technology, giving voters one of their final opportunities to compare the candidates side by side before casting ballots.
The debate marks one of the most closely watched events of Michigan’s 2026 election cycle, with control of the governor’s office on the line as Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is term-limited and cannot seek reelection. Organizers say questions from moderators and Michigan voters will help shape the discussion as Benson and James make their case to lead the state for the next four years.
