DETROIT ~ The world-renowned MICHELIN Guide is expanding its culinary travel directory to the Great Lakes region, including Detroit.
On Wednesday, the MICHELIN Guide held a joint press conference with tourism bureaus from Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Pittsburgh to announce the MICHELIN Guide American Great Lakes edition. The guide’s anonymous inspectors have already begun looking for suitable restaurants to list, which will be revealed in 2027.
“Being named a MICHELIN Guide destination is a milestone moment for Detroit and Southeast Michigan,” said Claude Molinari, president and CEO of Visit Detroit in a press release. “It reinforces Detroit’s emergence as a premier culinary destination in the United States, known for its diverse dining scene, world-class chefs, and authentic food culture. This recognition puts us on a global stage.”
The guide, published by French tire company Michelin, is a long-running culinary travel list that rates and reviews restaurants and hotels on a one-to-three-star basis in over 140 countries.
