DETROIT, MICH. ~ April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and Wayne State University is using virtual reality in attempt to show drivers the dangers of not being fully focused on the road. In 2023, Michigan passed a law that prohibits vehicle users from using mobile devices while behind the wheel, but Michigan is still dealing with unsettling crash numbers similar to those across the United States, according to Dr. Randall Commissaris, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Science at Wayne State University.
The Michigan State Police, partnered with Ontario and Indiana in the I-94 corridor, are ramping up efforts this month to further limit these numbers, calling the initiative “Lake to Lake, Focused and Safe.” Using extra patrols, these three units, along with local law enforcement, will be cracking down on distracted drivers.
