DETROIT, MICH ~ The Detroit Tigers gave Comerica Park what it was looking for on Opening Day, shutting out the St. Louis Cardinals 4–0 on Friday afternoon to snap a losing skid and open their home schedule with a win. Detroit improved to 3–4 on the season and recorded its first shutout behind timely offense and strong pitching in front of a lively home crowd.
After three scoreless innings, the Tigers broke through in the fourth when catcher Dillon Dingler hit a two‑run homer to straightaway center. Detroit added to its lead in the fifth as left fielder Riley Greene drove in a run with a single, then padded it in the sixth when shortstop Javier Báez followed with an RBI base hit. The Tigers finished with 10 hits and went 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position after a quiet season‑opening road trip.

(CONTINUED) Detroit’s pitching staff carried the afternoon, holding the Cardinals to five hits and never allowing a runner to reach third base after the third inning. Tigers pitchers faced the minimum in four different innings, keeping traffic off the bases and pressure off a defense that committed just one error.
The shutout capped a complete Opening Day performance for Detroit, blending power, efficiency and pitching depth in a full team effort. With St. Louis remaining in town through the weekend, the Tigers will look to build on the momentum and turn Friday’s win into an early‑season statement.
