WASHINGTON D.C. ~ Ahead of a two-week Congressional break, the Senate early Friday voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security, aside from immigration enforcement, to pay Transportation Security Administration employees.
Payments stopped when the government partially shut down almost six weeks ago due to a standoff over funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its tactics following high-profile killings by ICE agents in January. While the vote did not include funding for Border Patrol or ICE, it also did not include new restraints for ICE that were demanded by Democrats.
This comes a day after President Donald Trump announced he would sign an emergency executive order to pay TSA agents amid the partial government shutdown.
