GEORGIA ~ In a ruling similar to a case in Michigan, Colin Gray, 55, was found guilty by a Barrow County jury after concluding he was responsible for a mass shooting at Apalachee High School that his son allegedly committed.
Gray faced over 25 criminal counts, including two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of involuntary manslaughter, and was found guilty of all charges. He gifted an AR-15-style rifle to his son, Colt Gray, for Christmas in 2023, with prosecutors accusing the father of ignoring signs of his son’s ailing mental health and not securing the weapon. He maintained he did not see signs of his son’s poor mental health.
Colt Gray was 14 when he allegedly carried out the shooting on Sept. 4, 2024, which killed two students and two teachers. He faces 55 charges for the shooting.
The Georgia case mirrors the 2024 conviction of Jennifer and James Crumbley, whose 15-year-old son was found guilty of killing four students in a shooting at Oxford High School. They were charged with involuntary manslaughter for failing to restrict their son’s access to a firearm when he showed signs of poor mental health. Marcee Gray, Colt Gray’s mother, testified in court that she brought up the Crumbley case to Colin Gray and had asked him to secure the firearm in their home.
